I started this blog about 5 – 6 years ago. I’m embarrassed to write that! I’m also proud of myself for writing it. For calling myself on my shit, for being scared to share that this blog I once . Scratch that word once if I could find the strike through (no patience here) I am embarrassed to admit that too, but I digress …I have been writing / blogging/ pitching with various degrees of success…generally without success. I have learned A LOT. About myself, about others, and about the world, culture, business, non profits, freelancing, websites, affiliate marketing, e-commerce, Art, my own art & other people’s art.
learned how to raise a child (that just turned 20) .I Learned what it feels like to have no friends or family; I learned how to keep going when you don’t think you can, and I have kept going frozen, half paralyzed but I’m still here I suffered a serious of set backs with the law ; a broken foot reset with 6 pins permanently embedded and more recently I was creamed in a cross walk by a large hwy passenger bus in a cross walk with my dog. I was propelled into the air landing head straight into the pavement while my best friend was having her leg ripped off under the bus. The worst part is my seeming inability to secure a lawyer to sue for my injuries and a 13,000 vet bill, but somehow I have to keep going. I have to fight my way through, back to the life I know I deserve. The life family and fake friends have tried to thwart me from. It doesn’t work, there’s always been alight inside of me. Usually it doesn’t flicker but it has been dim for a long time. Today – my light came back on. I felt it, the spring air rushed into my nose and woke something In me! I’m back, and a little embarrassed at the small setbacks this blog has caused, I have drafted, changed direction, changed themes, changed logos, and my mind 1000 times!
Maybe timing is everything? Maybe if felt wrong to blog while feeling dread, or imposter syndrome. I’ve lost so much, but the wealth of knowledge and confidence I’ve suddenly felt build up inside of me is amazing. The grey sky seems to have made way for sunshine! Just last week I sat staring at this blog – blank page aplenty and curser blinking….not anymore, not today. I could gush more but I will leave it at that.

I was browsing at new art selling markets on the weekend. In spite of Covid (which I tend to ignore) – do other people shrug it off if not in danger of contracting it? 🤨
You may have already attended, been invited or at least heard of, sip & paint nights or paint parties?…. Yes…I must be the only person to never have wondered where the instructors get all those painting templates from?
Perhaps you also have missed this artist call or weren’t aware that it can be a great side hustle if you have a large pile of paintings collecting dust on your wall or shelf. Beware – not just any painting will do though! The host of each paint night has a large crowd to teach so the painting has to be created to break down into steps. These painting steps are what is so attractive about the purchase. While the painting must also be attractive and make people want to create it. The painting can’t be so complicated that it can’t be taught to almost anyone!
The website I reviewed was Studio Marketplace. It’s a great website that is chalk full of Artist galleries or Paint Night Companies and Artist Storefronts with painting templates all ready to purchase. It’s great on one hand because the Party Host can download the painting and sell out the paint night before even purchasing the Art if they wanted, so you never have to wonder if the idea is popular. In fact some Paint Party companies can create a calender way ahead and measure the interest so far ahead it could be easy to adjust unpopular paint nights and replace with a different painting months ahead of time.
Selling Art this way is a relatvely new concept of of Art license use. It’s also a chance for painters with patience to try breaking a painting down by brush stroke. The party host/ gallery/sip night host then creates their event, secures the venue, sells tickets, of course they prepare everything well in advance. The event is then presented with wine, dinner or apies and friends – VIOLA! SIP PAINT Night Parties!! Now I must check as these should be still going on online – I have the urge to paint and it could be just as fun in a smaller group size and entirely online. So start breaking down those brush strokes and stack that cash.

Can you see the allure for side income? If the artist doesn”t mind selling the end user licence rights for a quick $35.00 – $75.00 per sip party, now when based on one city that sounds small – now picture sip parties by the dozens in each city, hundreads by state, and yep, that’s a sweet bonus for any artist! Have fun preparing your next masterpiece for Studio Marketplace to add to your storefront (as stated by their website)

So if Paint Nights don’t do it for you, maybe this is more your kind of thing? I mean quarantining for two 5 day covid stints back to back in Iceland could be fun…maybe!
